Lovely Corfu, the emerald island, green and sundrenched with its indented beaches, the mythical fascinating island of the Phaeacians, Odysseus last stop before arriving at his beloved Ithaki. The incomparable beauty of the island inspired artists and impressed celebrities from all over the world throughout the centuries. It combines unique natural beauty with Greek hospitality, history and mythology, and it has been one of the most popular touristic destinations. Corfu is absolutely safe with almost zero criminality.

The Latin name Corfu comes from the Greek word “Korifi” that means “Peak”, and refers to the two peaks of the Old Venetian fortress, of the 17th century, situated in Corfu Town, near the Liston block, a French building with characteristic arches, and an imitation of Rue de Rivolli, in Paris. The Greek name of the island as well as its capital’s town is Kerkyra, the name of a mythical Nymph with whom Poseidon fell in love. Poseidon, the Greek God of the sea, brought his Nymph on this island to enjoy her love, and after their union, Pheax was born, the first king of Corfu, who gave the mythological name Pheaceia to the island, as Homer refers to it.

The population of Corfu island is about 110.000 inhabitants and nearly 30.000 of them live in Corfu town.
The touristic period starts in May and lasts till October. At this period the average temperature on Corfu is 24-35 °C (75-95 °F). (but in July and August it could reach 40 °C / 104 °F).
